Thank you for considering an application to Sunnyhill Housing Co-operative. Unfortunately, our 1 Bedroom Applications are now closed. But don't leave just yet: please be sure to read our FAQs and the application specific information below to ensure eligibility and to confirm your interest.   1.   Sunnyhill Housing Co-operative has a Housing Fit Policy as follows, minimum:
    One person for a 1 Bedroom Unit
    Two persons for a 2 Bedroom Unit
    Three persons for a 3 Bedroom Unit

    In each housing scenario at least one adult must be a member of Sunnyhill Housing Co-operative.
     

  2. Sunnyhill Housing Co-operative follows Canada Mortgage and housing guidelines for housing fit:
    a) Not accepting as members those who would be required to pay more than one-third of their gross annual income as housing charges.
    b) Combined family income for incoming members cannot exceed $96,642 per annum.

  3. Application Fee
    A non-refundable administrative fee of $20 must accompany the application form. Payment can be made online (see below) or by cheque made payable to "Sunnyhill Housing Co-operative Ltd."

  4. Applicant Orientation
    Applicants to Sunnyhill Housing Co-operative must attend an orientation seminar (typically within the first year of submitting an application). Once your application has been received, we will contact you with the date and location of our next orientation. Failure to respond to this invitation will result in your application being removed.

  5. Interviews
    Applicants to Sunnyhill Housing Co-operative will be interviewed by members of Sunnyhill's Member Selection Committee before membership can be offered to an applicant. Please prepare the following for your interview:

    Proof of income - A letter must be provided from your employer(s), copies of most recent Employment Insurance or Social Service entitlement, most recent income tax, etc. at the time of your personal interview. 

    Landlord references - A letter of reference or contact information for your two most recent landlords must be provided.

    Volunteer references - Letters of reference highlighting your volunteer experience must be provided. 

  6. Waiting List
    The waitlist is currently 2 to 6 years long for two and three-bedroom units. The waitlist for one-bedroom units can be 5-10 years. 

    The waitlist often fluctuates as the personal situations of applicants change. Your position on the waitlist doesn’t necessarily indicate how long you will wait for a unit. For this reason, we do not disclose waitlist positions to applicants.

  7. Annual Application Renewal
    Applications are kept on file for (1) year. You are responsible for informing Sunnyhill Housing Co-operative if you wish to renew your application every year in order to remain on the waiting list. You are also responsible for informing Sunnyhill of any changes to your application. You can renew your application by emailing shcmembers@shaw.ca.
